More choices — better prices — the mantra of the invisible corporate hands at work!
Try getting a warranty honored on anything, a straight piece of lumber at the building supply, a referral to a specialist, “full-service” at your bank, an insurance claim as they promised? The answers are almost universally “IMPOSSIBLE but GOOD LUCK!”
To the contrary, go into your favorite small store, where going there is like visiting old friends who are always civil and welcoming and who have always given you value that you appreciated. These heart-warming people are being gradually being displaced by the strangling invisible hands of bigness.
Solutions: move to a credit union, buy appliances from locals who are known for service, spend the time to find a doctor who is your advocate and responds (perhaps even through their “patient portal” which really seems to work) and many more that you could suggest.
